human presence sensor SONOFF SNZB-06P

Operating principle – radar, emits and receives a reflected response.
Advantages:
– More precisely detects the presence of a person in the room. This would be good in the bathroom, when someone is taking a bath, the radar will see it despite the infrared motion sensor (IR)
Disadvantages:
– Wired connection
– The radar detects any movement. When the bathroom hood is on, the radar will erroneously detect a person. A workaround is to use radar in tandem with an IR sensor. The IR sensor will be used when the hood is on
– The radar “sees” through walls. If you install it too close to the ceiling, the radar will “see” people walking on the floor above
– Trust of people. The radar emits radio waves at a frequency of 5.8 GHz. The documentation says that the radiation power is equal to or less than the power of ZigBee, but ZigBee consumes so little power that a small CR2032 battery can power the ZigBee radio module for more than 1 year. Why is an external 5W (5V 1A) power adapter used ?

Tuya Light Switch

Advantages:
– Usually on such switches it seems like you are pressing a button on a children’s joystick, the button stroke is very small. This switch has a more thoughtful mechanics, its tactility is very similar to a regular mechanical switch
Disadvantages:
– Unbranded, there are a lot of manufacturers who sell the same switches, but as their own brands (MOES, TUYA, …). And the mechanics and electronics are all the same, only the packaging is different
– Sometimes, when you press a button, not one but two commands are sent, and the light may turn on and then turn off immediately. But the problem is not so critical if the software of the “receiver” can “filter out” unnecessary commands

Sonoff Sensors: PIR, door

Advantages:
– Compliant with ZigBee standard (will work with any ZigBee hub)
– Battery power supply (for human presence can be used radare too, but radar has wired connection)
Disadvantages:
– Infrared (IR) Sensor the “Off Delay” is 1min. This made it difficult to use it in the human presence algorithm. We use two sensors in the toilets/bathrooms: IR and door sensors. The algorithm is simple: if someone opened the door, then closed the door, and then moved inside the room (this will trigger IR sensor) – “Human Presence” is ON until the door is opened again. But if someone leaves the room before the door is closed, due to the long “Off Delay” of the IR sensor, the algorithm mistakenly turns on “Human Presence”. Of course, we have a solution, but the “Radar” human presence sensor has competitive advantages (see the article above).
– Possibly Sonoff IR Sensor does not have build in “Correction of Sensitivity depending on external lighting”, it glitches on the daylight.
– All Sonoff sensors do not have response for read commands. Battery level information is sent only by Sensor internal algorithm, this is not very good.

GU10 lamp ”TUYA ZigBee”

Advantages:
– Everything works, you can easily reconnect to another network.
Disadvantages:
– No Brand, there are thousands of manufacturers are making TUYA. Not sure if another TUYA will be of the same quality.
– When controlling a group of lamps, for example 6 lamps in a room, when changing colors too quickly, using DMX like mode, you can hang a ZigBee bridge (Sonoff ZB Pro), but this may be due to a bridge problem not lamps.
-
GU10 lamp “Emos”

Disadvantages:
– Can be connected to ZigBee network only once. If you decide to move lamp to another place it may not work. “Emos” does not have instructions or manual how to reconnect lamp – disposable lamp, no further testing was made.

thermostat SONOFF

Testing thermostats of different brands, was surprised, often the mechanics inside are the same
Advantages:
– Compliant with ZigBee standard (will work with any ZigBee hub)
Disadvantages:
– Very short instruction manual (used instruction from MOES TRV06 🙂
– On touch it shows only set temperature
-
thermostat MOES

Advantages:
– Very good instruction manual
Disadvantages:
– Does not compliant with ZigBee temperature parameters set (will work only with native MOES hub)
-
thermostat AQARA

Tested with: old Sonoff ZB Bridge (NOT tested with “Sonoff ZB Bridge PRO”)
Advantages:
– Beautiful appearance (comparing with other similar models)
– Compliant with ZigBee standard (will work with any ZigBee hub)
Disadvantages:
– Price about twice higher than other similar modeles

Additional Temperature Sensor

The thermostat measures the temperature too close to the radiator, but the temperature away from the radiator can be 7-8 degrees lower. So we created a program that controls the room temperature using an additional sensor (Sonoff SNZB02). If you set the room temperature to 20C, the system will adjust the room temperature to 20C, but near the radiator it can be 27C.
